Doesn’t use heat
Foam sclerosant therapy (Varithena) is a gentle foam treatment delivered in as few as 1-2 needle sticks. The injected foam blocks the vein from allowing blood to pass through, essentially closing it.
Disadvantages:
Requires the use of compression stockings post procedure for at least 2 weeks
Not suitable for large veins
The procedure typically takes 45 minutes, from the time you enter our office to the time you leave. Using the results from your ultrasound appointment, Dr. Kim identifies the damaged veins that need to be treated. After applying local anesthesia, Dr. Kim injects the foam sclerosant into a damaged vein to close it off. This treatment works well for smaller, tributary veins.
