Endovenous Radiofrequency Ablation
Endovenous radiofrequency ablation is a minimally invasive technique that has been around for decades and uses a laser to ablate (or close) diseased and damaged veins. Blood then flows to healthy veins to improve the body’s overall circulation.
Advantages:
No hospitalization
No general anesthesia
No stitches or large incisions
Can resume normal activities immediately
No fear of an allergic reaction
Typically offered by more insurance plans
Disadvantages:
Requires the use of compression stockings post procedure for at least 2 weeks
Multiple “sticks” (entry points) are needed to fully treat the damaged vein
The procedure typically takes 1 hour, from the time you enter our office to the time you leave. Using the results from your ultrasound appointment, Dr. Kim identifies the damaged veins that need to be treated. After applying local anesthesia, Dr. Kim uses a small laser catheter to apply heat to collapse areas of the damaged vein. This “closes” the vein to redirect blood flow to healthier veins.
