Venaseal for Varicose Vein Treatment

The VenaSeal Vein Closure System is the newest, highly effective method to cure varicose vein disease. It allows for a small amount of specially formulated medical adhesive to close any diseased veins instantly. This directs blood from damaged veins to healthier veins deeper in the leg. Immediate circulation improvement is seen and symptoms are relieved.

What is Venaseal?

The VenaSeal closure system is a minimally invasive technique for treating varicose vein disease. It is a safe in simple outpatient treatment for varicose veins and venous insufficiency. When veins are damaged over time, blood begins to collect in the disease veins and not properly return to the heart. The Venaseal technique uses an adhesive to closed the diseased veins and restore blood flow to healthy veins deeper in the leg.

These treatments are highly effective at reducing symptoms such as swelling, pain, or cramping in the legs.

The VenaSeal system is an improvement over other methods as it allows for instant treatment with a single injection, immediate return to normal activities, and no need for compression stockings. This also avoids the large scarring which can occur with procedures of the past such as vein stripping.

Advantages of VenaSeal Closure System:

  • Simple, outpatient procedure
  • No hospitalization, no general anesthesia
  • No stitches or large incisions
  • Can resume normal activities immediately
  • No tumescent anesthesia or multiple sticks
  • Less pain and bruising than thermal ablations
  • Faster recovery time than thermal ablation
  • No need for compression stocking after the procedure

Am I a candidate for Venaseal Treatment for Varicose Vein Disease?

The first step to determining if VenaSeal is right for you is a physical exam and painless ultrasound image. If symptoms such as pain, swelling, or restless legs/cramping are present, you may likely be a candidate. An ultrasound will determine if veins are damaged and to what extent. Using the ultrasound to map out where the damaged veins are located, we can then perform targeted, minimally invasive treatments to seal damaged veins and direct blood flow to healthy veins.

How is Venaseal treatment performed?

Treatment with VenaSeal is a very simple 1 hour appointment. You are made comfortable in one of our procedure rooms. Using the map of damaged veins made during your consultation, Dr. Tidwell identifies the damaged veins needed to be treated. Local anesthesia is used and a single injection with a small catheter is performed into the vein. Damaged veins and valves are sealed with the specialized adhesive. This provides immediate restoration of circulation and improvement of symptoms.

Of particular enjoyment for our patients is that unlike other treatments no compression socks are needed after this treatment. They are also able to immediately return to normal activities and work that same day.

Is a Venaseal treatment covered by my insurance?

Yes. We accept most insurance plans and they cover procedures as long as deemed medically necessary. Medically necessary treatments include those who are suffering from:

  • Swollen legs
  • Painful legs
  • Cramping
  • Restless leg syndrome
  • Ulceration on the legs
  • Stasis dermatitis
  • Itchy legs

Some leg vein issues without symptoms are considered cosmetic and not covered by insurance plans. However, often cosmetic vein issues are a sign that deeper and more serious medical issues, such as venous insufficiency, are present.

Our in office insurance and prior authorization specialist can help work with you and your insurance company to make the treatment of venous disease simplistic. We take care of it and keep you informed.
