What is Kybella?
Kybella is an organic compound found in the digestive system which is used to break down and absorb dietary fat. The active ingredient is known as deoxycholic acid and produced by the liver. When injected into unwanted fat, this natural molecule dissolves the tissue and allows the body to excrete it.
The main benefit of Kybella is not requiring surgery or downtime associated with surgery.
What is a treatment with Kybella like?
The treatment session is a quick 10-15 minute office appointment. When you arrive, your skin is cleaned and prepared for the injections. The unwanted fat and double chin is identified and marked for treatment. A series of approximately ten to twenty injections place the Kybella into the targeted fat. It immediately begins to work by dissolving the fat. Once the fat is dissolved over the course of a few weeks, the body’s lymphatic drainage system removes it.
The most common side effect is some swelling and redness of the chin that typically resolves after a few days. You’re able to return to work and regular activities immediately.
How many treatments are needed with Kybella?
Depending on the amount of fat to be removed, you will need between two and four treatment sessions.
